Hey everybody! I know I've been slacking but I have been thoroughly enjoying my short 3 weeks home which is quickly coming to an end. I will be returning to the green shores of Scotland on Sunday. I will fortunately, or unfortunately, be flying on 9/11 which I am none too thrilled about. Everyone keeps telling me it will be the safest day to fly but I'm having a minor (and by minor I really mean full blown) panic attack.
On that note, we should all take a moment to reflect on that day and remember those who were lost, but will never be forgotten. The first attack of its kind since Pearl Harbor, it hurt our country, our economy, our people, but like all injuries, it healed. And like all injuries, there will always be a scar but we have become a stronger more unified country because of the event.
It was ten years ago. I was twelve years old. The images I saw that day will forever be burned in my brain. Being so young I couldn't really appreciate what was happening. My mother picked me up from my 7th grade orientation and she had tears in her eyes. I remember her saying "something has happened." When we got home we sat for hours watching the same footage over and over, but still never understanding how or why this is happening to our country. I still will never understand the full scale of it. I knew a lot of people didn't like us, but I didn't realize until that day how much. I became a patriot that day. Even though I live in a different country, I am an American, and proud of it. I bleed red, white, and blue. I have a 3'x5' American flag on my wall in my Scottish university dorm room. I will always be a proud American and that day spurned that pride.
So, 9/11 NEVER FORGET.
