So, since I haven't been doing any writing except for school (it just took me 4 times to spell except right, gods sake) I have noticed a steady decline in readers of my site. Thus, I will be posting on of my poems. This was probably the most difficult effing thing I have ever had to write. I know, I usually write all proper and intelligently, but my brain is actually so fried from this one I couldn't think my way out of a 3rd grade spelling bee. As I explained on Facebook to my loyal followers there, this is what a sestina is: a sestina is a poem with 6 stanzas, each stanza with 6 lines. there is a pattern which goes like this: ABCDEF, FAEBDC, CFDABE, ECBFAD, DEACFB, and BDFECA. you have to use the last words of the first stanza in each of the subsequent stanzas. so here's what i've got. boston pride.
Ok so, that was super confusing right? Right. So here is my actual poem. Let me know what you think!!
A Bostonian Sestina
It was the center of the Revolution, an important city,
some people call it “the Hub” or “Bean Town,”
but if you're local it will always just be Boston.
Home to the Bruins, Celtics, and Sox,
the biggest sin is to be a Yankees fan.
Boston is the pride of the East Coast.
Not far from the Cape, a beautiful part of the coast,
Boston is quite an amazing city.
It is the greatest place to be a fan,
as it it not only big on sports, but a college town.
Everywhere you go you'll see the tell tale “B” for the Sox.
There are so many other reasons to love Boston.
The capital of Massachusetts is Boston.
There is approximately 1500 miles of coast
where there are plenty of bars and restaurants to catch the Sox,
which is no more than twenty minutes from the city.
One of the most popular places is called P-Town,
which is beautiful and hot in the summer, so bring a fan!
The Charles River is somewhere else you'd need a fan;
this is the famously dirty water of Boston,
which runs all the way through down town,
and spills its filth finally on the coast.
The River is dirty, but has inspired songs of the city,
which you'll hear is you get to see the Sox.
If you're into baseball, you've got to go see the Red Sox.
Even Yankees players say, “there's no fan like a Boston fan.”
When it comes to pride, you won't find a more proud city,
whether you're from the suburbs, or downtown Boston,
from central Mass, or the coast,
you are proud to say this is your town.
There have even been films made here, such as “The Departed” and “The Town.”
There have been several made about the Red Sox,
one of which was based in Hyannis, right on the coast.
There have been famous families; the Kennedy's are a fan
of not only the Cape, but also Boston.
It is an incredible, diverse, unique city.
All I have to say is...I'll stick to free verse, thanks.
